Cyclops
You are Cyclops! Strong-willed, disciplined, and
an all-around good guy, you are probably the
envy of most others around you. As Cyclops,
you are committed to your family and lovers,
even if you sometimes lose your patience. You
will find best times with Colossus, with his
sense of virtue, but will be at odds with Havok
due to his insecurities.

Which X-Man Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

I feared it was so.

Iceman
You are Iceman! Carefree and wild, you prefer the
world of fun and laughter. Most will agree
that you are entertaining, but you may lack a
sense of responsibility or caution. Gambit and
Angel -- with their social skills -- will best
aid you in your search of entertainment, but
watch for Rictor, who will most likely be put
off by your antics.

Which X-Man Are You?

Whee!
That's more like it.

Beware! And be afraid! Be very afraid!

A comment thread in one of the earlier sausage links said this:

It says: Play the sausage game. Who has the longest?

This one has 20 players. Lists names.

To play, type in your nick and click the button. The sausage will automatically post itself to your live journal. You must be (logged in) and have Java enabled for this to work.

Hee. The button says "Grow Sausage!"

I can't confirm or refute (or conform, as I originally typed) but I can add data.

I put someone else's screenname (actually, one of my puppets, but I wasn't logged into his account at the time) in the blank 'cuz I just wanted to see what it'd do but didn't want a record created with my SN anywhere, on the off chance it was somehow obnoxious. (Hey, I can't read Russian...)

It pulled up the "update journal" page but needed the password entered to continue. Needless to say, I didn't continue. But it is definitely relying on the fact that you're already logged in to update your journal.

Now, again, I'm no expert, but I have the impression that once you're logged in to LJ, it just sets a cookie on your machine that says "Yes, this is me!" - not that it keeps sending your password over and over ad nauseum to each page that requires it. In which case I can't see how he would get your password. But, as I really know very little about either passwords or cookies, I could be very wrong.

Then again, there could be something in it that finds autocomplete data on your HD or something? I hate that function.

Re: Cross-domain is interesting here.
While it's a bug to yield a cookie to the domain other than its own, I don't see why the form action's PHP script couldn't capture a cross-domain cookie and abusively store it...resulting in permanent login if the cookie-acceptance algorithm doesn't react to IP. (Which is certain if you're logged in IP-proof, like I am. But I'm surfing on NS7.x, not IE...precisely to shut down cross-domain cookie bugs, and other funky security issues.)

LJ staff has mentioned that the LJ source doesn't use your password as part of the cookie generation, so there's no "reverse-hack" possible along those lines.

Re: Cross-domain is interesting here.
Thank you both!

That's very informative, and it answers my question.
I was actually trying to find out who could read Russian, too.

(Still waiting to see whether I've successfully trolled for my clone sister, miajesbar, too. ;-))

Re: Cross-domain is interesting here.
Rechecked LJ just now (in middle of news sweep)...

MAJOR cross-domain bug in IE. Not sure if it's a 0-day exploit...this would permit anything accessible in JavaScript or VBScript to be ripped.

my question is....why would anyone want to obtain someone else's LJ password? It's not as if it's a very big deal overall...all they could really do is post a few nasty comments, which you could prove weren't done by the person who owned the journal by using isp addresses.

So why create a meme that would be used to collect the passwords in the first place?

Because people can be just mean, period. . . even if it can be proven, it would still create a headache for the owner of the LJ.

Well, if the person has friends-locked or private posts, one can get in to see them, of course. Also, one could delete or modify posts. I personally have nothing to hack, as I have XML backups of all my posts, which are public in the first place. :-)

So why create a meme that would be used to collect the passwords in the first place
For sheer cracker glory or cheap thrills, if not malice, is my guess.
I don't mean to suggest there is much profit to be had by getting access to LJ accounts. :-)

Of course, the capability to do it doesn't necessarily entail the willingness or intent, but I'll be adding an edit to the disclaimer.
