With Thirteen You Get A Personality

Interesting e-mail footer:
Free email with personality! Over 200 domains!

::chuckle:: Does that mean the e-mail comes with a personality for the user or that one needs a personality to redeem the offer?

(Thanks to Demosthenes for locating the song. Really first rate.)

Edit, 04:30 CDT Wed 29 Sep 2004: I have 5 GMail invites. If you'd like one, simply reply to this post with the e-mail you'd like me to send it to.
(OK, OK, istari_ala and hempknight, I'm going! Put away those shillelaghs! Sheeeh!)

OK, OK, istari_ala and hempknight, I'm going! Put away those shillelaghs! Sheeeh!

You're still not gone? I told you istari_ala will kick my arse if you don't go to sleep. Have you no compassion for your fellow man?

She can't kick yer arse. I gave her a specific directive to refrain from kicking your arse in particular. Let me know when you are through peddling it, though.

Have you no compassion for your fellow man?
::blink:: You're a man? I thought you were "experimenting with yourelf".

It depends. Compassion, well, one gives as good as one gets.

*chuckles also*

What the world needs is more freelance proofreaders, I think. As long as the pay was decent...

(who thinks GMail sounds interesting but already seems to have an awful lot of email addresses!)

Ah - of course, Norton Juster's The Phantom Tollbooth, I suppose?

Well, let me know if you change your mind in the near future, please.

Oh, what the heck, I'm curious to see how GMail works. If you still have one going spare, send it to celandineb AT livejournal.com (which forwards to one I use). Thanks!

Re: GMail
Got it, thank you! I've opened the account (celandineb) but haven't really used it much yet - too much else going on just now to play around with it.

gmail!
Crud, I *knew* there was something I meant to do last night.

Hold on to one of those invites for me, please. I have one, but it might have expired yesterday (or today might be the day), and I can't get into the mail program for the address where the invite was sent.

I'll let you know tonight/tomorrow morning, whether I'll actually *need* it.

Thank you!

Ah, I see. We shall see how well this "GMail" functions. I used to hate Google, but I went over to the G-side when I found out they were trying to maintain the newsgroup archive from dejanews (where I first read AFT and happened upon all the resulting lovely madness that is now TEUNC).

I can't tell you why, but I hated it. Knee-jerk librarian response, prolly.

Ah, I see. We shall see how well this "GMail" functions.
Do you have one now?
If not, I'll invite you instanter.

I used to hate Google, but I went over to the G-side when I found out they were trying to maintain the newsgroup archive from dejanews (where I first read AFT and happened upon all the resulting lovely madness that is now TEUNC).
And I used to love Google Groups, until the 3-9 hour delay got to be consistently closer to 9 hours. But nowadays I don't hang out in alt.fan.tolkien and rec.arts.books.tolkien (or USENET in general) much.

Tried a couple of years ago. Found the format irritating.

But that's not unusual for me.

Just curious: How much space did they give you?

Re: www.MyOwnEmail.com
While it was nice to have a cool address (wileywiggins@dazedandconfused.com IIRC), the format appeared to be set up with young people in mind (i.e., teens). Hence, there were more options on changing the colour scheme than there were for mail filters, security controls, and so on. Moreover, it was slower than hotmail, and lord knows that can be horrifying in its unreliability, at times.

I don't recall the amount of memory, but then, I only used for a month, around spring 2002 or thereabouts.
