Thank you for sharing these, William.
They brightened up a rainy overcast afternoon.

Magnolia tree
Thanks - I shall pass on your compliments to my dad, who planted and tended it. We used to live on Magnolia Avenue in Lakeland, FL, and the ones there were ginormous.

Nice kitten icon, BTW: I have come to associate it with scottharmon's wallpaper:
"Every time you run Windows, God kills a kitten. Please... think of the kittens: run Linux."

Have you ever seen a Dogwood tree? There's some interesting history behind the flower that grows on it.

Dogwoods
Have you ever seen a Dogwood tree?
Yes, I've seen many. My dad wanted one, but had to settle for a redbud.

There's some interesting history behind the flower that grows on it.
Do tell!

Re: Dogwoods
The flower is seen by many as a reminder of Jesus' death on the cross. If you look at the blossom closely, you can see red that looks like rust.

blossoms fall like snow...
Pretty! (^_^) So...where are your sakura trees? Oh wait...you're not nihonjin! (Do Chinese-diaspora folk celebrate cherry blossoms at all, or is there some other [provincial?] springtime flower-blooming celebration?)

Eh, close enough for horseshoes (*clang*) and middle school.

kid, 1984: Say something in Japanese.
me: I'm not Japanese. I know hai, no, and moshi moshi anone.
kid: Um... Spanish?
me: *boggle* Sí, señor.
kid: *goes off looking satisfied*
me: *BOGGLE*

We do, and we even go to Washington, DC to view (and photograph) the ones your fine folk (speaking to you as a person of Japanese descent) gave... uh, our fine folk (speaking to you as one American to another).
