Portals and other cool web projects

My favorite portals:
OneLook.com, the meta-dictionary (I never start up Firefox without it)
The Internet Movie Database (I append "IMDB" to most movie and actor/actress searches)
WikiPedia (... and I append "Wikipedia" to nearly every other search in Mozilla's Google sidebar box)

Cool web projects:
The Tree of Life Web Project

Try "site:" for site searches (e.g. "site:en.wikipedia.org yggsdrasil") in your Google search. I think it's quicker, more accurate, and probably easier on Google's software.

When I created a multi-site search box on our department's website to conform to the University's new web standards, I added the ability to search Wikipedia just for good measure. I 'bought a subscription' (set up a donation schedule) back when Wikimedia was asking for donations. Wikipedia kicks ass.
