Day 8: A Day in the Highlands

UK Trip 2005: A Tronkie Travellogue
Day 8: Edinburgh, Scotland to Inverness, Scotland, return (Bus Tour of the Scottish Highlands)

(Click each photo for the full-size version)

08:20 - 20:20: We took a day tour on the Timberbush line to Stirling, Falkirk, Bannockburn, the Highlands, Loch Ness, Inverness and Northeast Scotland.
Passing through the ancient homelands of Rob Roy MacGregor (most famously depicted and romanticized in Rob Roy), William Wallace (whose story is mingled with many Hollywood embellishments in Braveheart), and the wholly fictional characters Connor and Duncan MacLeod (of the film and TV series Highlander) and Dorothea MacDonald (Diamond Mask) was quite an experience. Sancta Illusio, ora pro nobis.

Glad you liked them!
If you ever get to Edinburgh or Glasgow, don't pass up the opportunity to take that day tour - it's relatively cheap1 (£31 per person, £29 for seniors and students) and you get to see so much. It's just the most blessed country.

1 After I got them the seniors discount, the ticketing agent asks me whether I'm a student. I say "nope", and he laughs, "well, ye dinnae haf'tae be soo honest abaht et!" Banamum remarks that I'm a professor and he looks gravely at her: "oh, we charge them double!"

Yeah, IF I ever get off this continent...

You're usually a nice prof...when you aren't running over puppies!

Puppy!!!
"No puppies were harmed in the making of these photos."

Our planes are puppy safe, madam President! We took a lesson from your Air Force One!

To get off this continent the easy way, Anemone, just follow the groovy turtles to the great transpacific waterway! Duuuuude.

(They should have Hurley be a turtle in a Finding Nemo sequel!)

Very good!
I hope you take a couple of days or three to enjoy it!
It was a beautiful day on the tour - cool, clean, fresh air; I just wish I'd been outdoors for more of it.
