The Wikipedia Birth Date Meme

Seen with masteralida, among many others.
Go to Wikipedia and put in your birth date. Don't put in the year. Post in your LJ with three neat facts, two births, and two deaths! Or ignore those rules and post all the things you want to point out to prove how incredibly cool it was to be born on your birthday!

On this date (October 1) in history:

331 BC - Alexander the Great of Macedonia defeats Darius III of Persia in the Battle of Gaugamela.
1949 - The People's Republic of China is declared by Mao Zedong.
1971 - Walt Disney World opens in Orlando, Florida, United States. (EPCOT Center opened on the same day in 1982, and I was there.)

1881 - William Boeing, American engineer (d. 1956)
1924 - William Rehnquist, 16th Chief Justice of the United States (d. 2005)

1040 - Alan III, Duke of Brittany (French: Duc de Bretagne) (poisoned) (b. 997)
1985 - E. B. White, American author (b. 1899)

Feast day of Saint Thérèse de Lisieux (Roman Catholic)
Independence day of Nigeria (1960) and Tuvalu (1975)

Drabble Meme

Fulfilling a meme-debt to queenmidalah, from whom I requested a Star Wars/Dukes of Hazzard drabble:
Anyone to comment on this entry gets to request a drabble (up to about 100 words) from the poster. In return, the respondent is encouraged to post this in his or her journal. Post all fandoms you're willing to write for.

Fandoms I will write for:

Books: Tolkien's Middle-earth (The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, The Book of Lost Tales), Lucas's Star Wars (Han Solo and Lando Calrissian trilogies, novelizations of the films, EU), Lewis's Narnia, Zelazny's Amber, Leiber's Nehwon (Fahfrd and the Grey Mouse) mythos, Burroughs's Tarzan, Herbert's Dune (first four books), Simmons's Hyperion/Endymion universe, May's Pliocene Exile/Galactic Milieu universe, Card's Ender saga (four books of the original quartet), Lackey's Valdemar series, McCaffrey's Pern, Harris's Hannibal, Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Virgil's Aeneid, Twain's Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, Austen's Pride and Prejudice

Note the conspicuous absence of Rice's Vampire Chronicles, because some people don't want fanfic in their canons.

Films and Miniseries: Star Wars (all six movies of the canon), Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Princess Mononoke, The X-Files, The Matrix (original film only), Dune and Children of Dune, Cowboy Bebop, Pirates of the Caribbean, Serenity, Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe

Television Shows: The Misfits of Science, Automan, Starman, Star Trek (TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise), The X-Files, Babylon 5, Dark Skies, Millenium, Brimstone, Dark Angel, Stargate: SG-1, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Stargate: Atlantis, Lost, Battlestar Galactica (new series), Doctor Who (2005 series).

Games: Ultima (first two games), Quest for Glory (first four games), Star Control universe, Warcraft (PC games only)

(Yes, I am willing to do crossovers. *runs and hides*)

I'm tempted to ask for Buffy trying to fight the skeleton!pirates from "Pirates." Except that my own fandom repertoire is too small to really make this worthwhile for me to engage in. Heh.

Hmm. Giles meets Jack Sparrow. Or Captain Kirk finds himself in Narnia during the golden age of the reign of the four children.

I have to let the available fandoms percolate through my mind before I could make a decision on any one. The crossovers amuse me.

Take your pick, or dream up some more!
These are all good. :-D

"This would be a lot easier," shouted Buffy, kicking through the ribcage of a lunging deck hand, "if they'd just... hold... still!" She remembered smashing the ancient bones of the Master and wished she at least had a nice, hefty sledgehammer to swing.

"Watcher, ay?" said the slim man, fidgeting with his bandanna and eyeing Giles' pocket watch surreptitiously. "What exactly is it that you... watch?"

"Spock, I'm in love with Susan Pevensie."
"Jim... Susan Pevensie must return to the Shadowlands."

Re: Take your pick, or dream up some more!
SOme random thoughts.

- Tarzan among the Fremen.
- Oddyseus meets the King and the Duke (the two travelling guys from Huck Finn, right?)
- The White Witch from Narnia in the world of Buffy.

I have to say that, of the ones you've done little bits, the Narnia/Kirk made me laugh out loud.

Real Lords of the Jungle Don't Wear Stillsuits
If Tarzan had crash-landed on Arrakis, he would have located some secret protocol of the Fremen Reverend Mothers and taught himself the Weirding Way. Then, of course, there's the question of what might transpire after he called out the Naib of whatever sietch actually happened across him.

I'll do Odysseus meets the King and the Duke, but only if you let it be set on the Isle of Circe, for maximum hilarity. ;-) "Two Missouri Shysters in Queen Circe's Court", perhaps.

Jadis would have made a decent villainess of the season: if nothing else, there's always the Deplorable Word for a few apocalyptic chuckles.

Re: Real Lords of the Jungle Don't Wear Stillsuits
Jadis would be great. Lamppost mania.

But I think that if you do write one of these random ideas, it'll have to be Kirk and Spock in Narnia.

The goofiness of the original series characters is just too much.

Kirk meets Aslan! Chaos ensues!

He's Dead, Jim! (or not)
"I could have saved him, Jim! Do you know what you've done?!"
"He knows, Doctor. He knows."

Apr. 17th, 2006 04:41 am (UTC)
Re: He's Dead, Jim! (or not)
"This is most illogical - according to the only compact we know of, he must be well and truly dead - and yet his body is gone."
"Yes, Spock, there's obviously... something deeper going on here than we first suspected."
Apr. 17th, 2006 06:37 am (UTC)
Live long and prosper, Edmund
"I have killed the Lion. I shall do neither."

"Are thee Narnian? Or human?"

Apr. 16th, 2006 10:57 pm (UTC)
Buffy and the Scoobies team up with Captain Kirk, Spock, and the gang to fight the Wraith. Buffy/Spock interaction would be priceless.
Apr. 16th, 2006 11:19 pm (UTC)
Will do!
LOLOL, I'll see what I can do.

Apr. 17th, 2006 12:25 am (UTC)
Hmm... Mulder and Scully and The Scooby Gang teaming up for a Bad Blood-type case. :D
Apr. 17th, 2006 12:25 am (UTC)
Except pretend I used this icon the first time.

Chupacabras or Texas-style?
Just one question: are vampires real in this scenario?
(Well, what I mean to say is: do you want to believe?)

Apr. 17th, 2006 02:02 am (UTC)
Re: Chupacabras or Texas-style?
Heh. Of course I want to believe. But if you have a brilliant idea one way or the other, feel free to use artistic license.
Apr. 17th, 2006 02:08 am (UTC)
The Cigarette-Smoking Vamp
... well, you know how they said Spike and Angel had black souls?

Apr. 17th, 2006 04:06 am (UTC)
Pirates of the Caribbean meet the Iliad and Odyssey.

Feel free to throw in Firefly, too. But I'm not sure if you could do that in 100 words. ;)

Re: *innocent*
I don't think Bana can do ANYTHING in 100 words...
Apr. 17th, 2006 04:17 am (UTC)
Re: *innocent*
Aha, I just want to see Jack Sparrow at the battle of Troy!
Apr. 17th, 2006 04:37 am (UTC)
Let them say that I lived in the time of Sparrow, Accursed of Skeletons
Priam dashed through the temple as the frightened screams of consecrated virgins commingled with the death shouts of brave defenders. Gripping his sword in his aged hand, he strode forward against the interlopers, crying, "have you no honor?".

"Well... no. Not really," came a sheepish voice from the shadowy alcove. "Sorry."

Apr. 17th, 2006 04:22 am (UTC)
I resemble that remark! :-D

I can do it! That's why I wisely begged off of including Firefly, see?

Here, you get the "My Crew" icon.
(Mal is a lashed-to-the-mast kind of guy, as we all know.)

Pirates of the Aegean: The Curse of the Sun-Cattle
"We named the monkey Telemakos!"

O. M. G.

What have you unleashed, woman?!

I agree that a Firefly tie-in would be difficult for a drabble. Not for a crossover fic, though! Aaaargh.

You've earned this icon!!

Re: Pirates of the Aegean: The Curse of the Sun-Cattle
HEEEEEEEE I am innocent! Oh man. Jack Sparrow at Troy. Jack Sparrow and Odysseus. Ahahaha. I love it.

Re: eeeeeeViol!

Apr. 17th, 2006 04:15 am (UTC)

How about a Star Wars/Lost/Battlestar: Galactica Crossover?

Apr. 17th, 2006 04:18 am (UTC)
Heeee! Sooo cool. *waits for Bana's drabblefest*

and posted with the right journal this time! points for me!
Apr. 17th, 2006 04:33 am (UTC)
Hrm... feasible.
You know how there's a Dharma station called "The Arrow" on the blast door map from the hatch?

Star Wars... now that's a tricky tie-in.
I have a few nebulous ideas, but nothing concrete yet...
