$5 Million Gift for Development of New Athletic Complex
The Edward A. St. John Foundation - the endowment affiliate of St. John Properties, Inc. - has made a $5 million commitment to Severn School.

The gift will be used to help construct a new comprehensive Athletic Complex on campus that will house a multi-purpose field house, fitness and training centers, a concession area and an Athletic Hall of Fame, among other features. Construction activities are set to commence on the $10 million complex this summer, the Edward St. John Athletic Center, with a targeted completion date of January 2008.

Rad. Love colleges... just wish more would get spent on education, less on sports. I understand the co-dependancy of the relationship between the two, however, to make the education more affordable, the sports program charges, etc... just wish they could be separate, sometimes, I guess.
The complex does look lush and wonderful, though. :)

Severn School: a collegiate preparatory school
Severn's actually a prep school with grades 6-12. I was surprised by the magnitude of the gift, but then, they just spent a comparable amount on the new academic center a few years back, and they have a college and university admissions rate in excess of 95%. I think it's safe to say that Severn puts academics first.
