The writing bug

This fall, I've definitely reacquired the writing bug, and fortunately for me, it's mostly of the "technical papers" strain.

We'll see whether I have time for Nanowrimo 2006, which I had briefly resolved to forego this year, then vacillated upon. Eloyine, an MC of the second book and/or series, is finally talking to me, and that's rare. (Besides, I have the "cyberpunk and more" challenge on Fast Time to do with taiji_jian next fall.)

Now, by a show of hands, wings, and other appendages: who's (tentatively) in Nano this year?

Re: Write a story about llamas!
Actually, two of four years I have had a yama (same thing but it's fantasy so we need at least a slightly different name) in my work. The animal doesn't play a lead role but is capable of mind-speaking the main character.

I haven't decided if I'm going to participate yet, but signs are pointing towards yes so far. It really depends on how much studying I get in before November comes around XD

Mememe! I've been meaning to participate for two years, but I never had the time (or the financial incentive!). Now I have my lowest workload ever - apparently Norwegian universities are not too keen on taking up their students' free time - plus an editor bugging me regularly to write more SF (there is the financial incentive ;] ), so.... I don't really have any excuses left!

But I'll probably write it in Hungarian... (which is kind of annoying, since Hungarian is agglutinative -> fewer words :/ )

Re: Yay! Join us!
Ah, there's the rub. Last year, I determined that I would write in the fantasy genre, as I enjoy reading stories in that vein. However, upon glancing at a few paragraphs over my shoulder, my son informed me that I had written about the "Oregon Trail."

To my dismay, I realized he was exactly right. My characters had begun an epic journey, and the action was repulsively close to that old computer game I had been obsessed with quite a few years ago. Yes, I had a wagon overturn, but to my credit, no one died of dysentery.

I'm quite undone. I don't know what I will write. I've even resorted to thinking of of using an idea generator.

I'm open to suggestions.

This year would seem to be the one year I could actually do it, what with my leave of absence and all. But I've never been able to write prose very well, and so I think I'll content myself with trying to get some poetry published.

Um...if I come up with an idea, and if I get my thesis done before November...then I'm totally in. :D
