Our old friend Bobby

Has anyone seen my old friend Bobby?
Is it true what I just read?
I thought I saw him walkin' up over the hill
With old Jimmy, Charlie and Fred.

R.I.P. Bob Keeshan aka Captain Kangaroo, 27 Jun 1927 - 23 Jan 2004
( obituary )

Thanks to phawkwood, chevronsha, and Dick Holler (along with Bob Dylan and Emmylou Harris) for inspiring the above.

I wrote this the day Schulz died and it seems fitting tonight.

(Changing shoes in silence and sitting somberly with Bunny Rabbit, Mr. Moose, and King Friday)

He was a man, take him for all in all,
I shall not look upon his like again.

-Hamlet, I.ii.184-185

you made me cry!
im sorry i forgot Chuck
and i mispelled Shari's name

We are in Desperate need for pure and moral public educators again

All hope is not lost though,
Paula and Carole (from The Magic Garden) are still going strong (and are on tour) with a new show to come out next year.
I cant wait

Not all tears are evil
you made me cry!

As Gandalf said:
Á lelya séressë! Lá equen: áva nainuvalyë; an lá ilyë níreli nar úmiéo.
(Go in peace! I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.)

-The Return of The King

NP - who is Shari?

Ah - I haven't been following the Magic Garden.
Yes, there will be more, I think. Hope persists.

Shari Lewis - Friend of LambChop (the song that doesn't end)

THe Magic Garden was a local NYC (channel 11 WPIX) childrens show in the mid 70's to mid 80's - two hippie chicks sang songs and played games and were wonderful - it was just them nad what you could barely call a set - and a few puppets and the chuckle patch (a patch of fake flowers that had jokes taped to their leaves - and the story box - a big wooden chest with costumes in it (regular stuff kids could find around the house) where each show they would act out a different childrens' story. They were friends and they were wonderful.
sorry - they are still friends and are still wonderful.
sorry you missed them.
Ever see Romper Room? That was cool too

Ah, OK.

[The Magic Garden]
Got it - thanks for this.

sorry - they are still friends and are still wonderful.
sorry you missed them.

Who knows, I might catch it with my future children on DVD. I have a feeling we will need to go back to the old standbys: The Electric Company, The Great Space Coaster, 3-2-1 Contact!, and Square One TV. Viva Mathnet!

Yes. I once heard an unsustantiated urban legend that the hostess of RR committed suicide while taping an episode, but this sort of pernicious rumor crops up every now and then. It's definitely not true, as both of the Claster women (Miss Nancy and Miss Sally) lived through the end of their time as Romper Room teachers.
