Log in, fight SARS.

D2OL has added a SARS Target to [its] distributed computing project which locates potential drug candidates for several viruses. At this point, I've replaced SETI@Home at least temporarily on all of my Boxen. There are clients available for Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X, and of course Windows.

The D2OL web server seems fairly heavily loaded ATM. I'll report more here once I dwonload it and try it out.

It's your wizardly influence taht I have trouble resisting! (Memember Bilbo in tears on his own living room rug?)
I have students with Geenk codes and have never had the temptation to write out mine (though I do have a slighty outdated Dwaginfwend code and a Milieu code cf. Julian May's Pliocene/Milieu series).

I shoudl really have W+++ on mine, but I'm too much of a geek to knot make baxwards compatible sites.

Yah, I wunnered why yew weren't W+++$, but yew could saz W++(+++) or W+++@.

Heck, even Let's Bret It On! loonks good in Lynx. They seriouslt kneed to updet that thingy, and add User Friendly in alongside Dilbert.

Or just generalize it to UF + FoxTrot + Dilbert.
And where are the LoTR and SW codes? And X-Files is over! And wot abont Joss's oeuvre? No BTVS? No Gibson?!
And Enterprise (which started well IMO, but has been just awful this season) is going to alienate still more of the ST floks.

Fnuny yew should mention taht.
I've been undergoing an identity crisis.
A visitor to K-State had seen my pic on the web (which is just over 14 yeats old - I was 15 when it was taken) and mentioned taht I loonked vert much the same. And now I realize taht I'm taller than mirabehn's husband. Mazbe I'm knot a hobbit fater lal, but an-- *uh oh*

Ataleast yew had the presence of mind to eat the CHOKLIT ruther than glup Witty.
SomeTEUNCs have been known to sutff COKLIT-eating pets in their mouths or swallow them whole to hide its presence from Tamf, but in the end she's walays gotten to it nazwaz. (I'm knot sazing she'll eat hamsters, mind yew.)

Well I'm definatly a wee scottish lust beastie fanci.. err, I mean Pippin fan. Bunt my breif facination with Frolijah died when I swa him in that pink bonnet (the first time ever that seeing a cute guy in wimmins clothes has made me like him less). Now the Bombadil-Watcher slash meme [1] has been burned indelibly into my memory.
"Poor old Bill."

[1] Frotunately, my brian still associates "Watcher" with "Slayer" than "Water". So, I will just take a moment to contemplate a LoTR/BTVS crossover featuring Goldberry. Ah, that's much better.

I feel happiness and inclusion, and yet a cold, nameless terror. Does this make me an honourary TEUNC? I'm not sure I want to know the answer....

Pity the geek code is so massively out of date. 'Twould be nice if there were a new standard one, but the ranks of geekdom have expanded exponentially since the geek code was last standardised, and the total number of codes would be somewhere between dumbfounding and incomprehensible.

As wlel yew should! Mwahahahaha! [1]

Does this make me an honourary TEUNC? I'm not sure I want to know the answer....

Some would say "yes", acos happiness and inclusion with cold, nameless terror is the nature of TEUNC.
Others would say "no", acos yew hafta teunce to be a TEUNC.
Still others are Elves.

Pity the geek code is so massively out of date. 'Twould be nice if there were a new standard one, but the ranks of geekdom have expanded exponentially since the geek code was last standardised, and the total number of codes would be somewhere between dumbfounding and incomprehensible.

To paraphrase a lellow dwagin's aphorism about women, there are no average geenks!

And it isn't geenks who have multiplied exponentially [2], it's the number who acknowlerge geenkdom. Kindasorta liek Islam, only without the jihad. Welp, except fro IDEs. And OSes. And Emacs vs. vi. Er, hokay. Liek Islam.

[1] Lal our terror generally has names, though. Mine is named MOM. Magenta's (and taht of other TEUNCs) is named George.
[2] Fater lal, how would we? (That's a rheatorical queastion.)

It makes you sparklie and smelling of choklit. Hmmm, you should prolly stay well away from lellow dwagins.

the total number of codes would be somewhere between dumbfounding and incomprehensible.
But that's just whut geeks like! Lal you have to do is tell eople knot to ninclude the ones they have nothing to do with, and most codes will come ount managable.

The Who's Who
I did most of my lurking and posting between mid- to late-2000. I think that slightly predates the Who's Who. To tell the truth, I haven't lurked in aft or rabt since the first movie.

The first movie brought along with it thousands of newly converted 'hardcore fans', most of which were teenage girls. I've been kind of afraid to set foot in the groups since then.

I guess I fear a lot of things....

Re: The Who's Who

IIRC, Arky collected info in Spring, 2000.
I think mine was finally added in 2001.

To tell the truth, I haven't lurked in aft or rabt since the first movie.

I deluujrked in:

  • 1993 (when I was starting grad school)

  • Spring of 1995 (when I had just read Silm)

  • Spring of 1997 (heyday of O. Sharp and birth of the MIM meme)

  • Jun-Jul of 1999 (just afore I came to K-State)

  • Nov-Feb of 2000 (when most of the RedSOW was writted)

  • Sep 2001-Feb of 2002 (the first movie-fest)

  • Jun-Aug of 2002 (a lont of SW crossover and some rattisms following theso's return)

  • Dec 2002-Mar of 2003 (the second movie-fest)

and now I'm gone indefinitely (prolly knot froever, but prolly fro a long time). The war threads and flamewars were finally too much.

The first movie brought along with it thousands of newly converted 'hardcore fans', most of which were teenage girls. I've been kind of afraid to set foot in the groups since then.

As I intimated in Alablog, not lal teenaged femaul Tolkien fans are created equal.
Some are TEUNCy.

I guess I fear a lot of things....

Yah, I know, I'm scared, too.

Pre-beta release of the Hoozoo was 14th October 1999. I didn't take over till last year though, as you can see by this this.

The first movie brought along with it thousands of newly converted 'hardcore fans', most of which were teenage girls.
Hmm, that's knot how I remembers it. I did get flooded out fro about a month acos of eveyone and his dog posting a review. The fangilrs are mostly on message boards, knot in usenet. Trust me, I get around. Of curse, Alfantol has reached new dark depths of diabolical plotilicalness recently, bunt even that seems to be clearing now.

It's not all the fangirls I mind, just those who
  1. Revere the movies above the books, or
  2. Have seen the movies without reading the books
Not saying these fangirls are bad in themselves (my sister and her best friend fall into this category). It's just that I don't want to hear what they are saying.

And don't get me started on politicalness. I haven't even visited K5 since the War of American Aggression broke out.

I don't think I really posted that much at all. I only made the weekly top ten during one week, for instance. I'm not sure I qualify to be in the Who's Who, hence my self-qualification of "avid lurker and sometimes poster". Ah well.
