Continuing where I left off...
In decreasing order of how long I've known these fine folks:


037 - hpguo is cool because:
1. He is extremely talented and intelligent. His knowledge, like his interests, has grown broad and deep. This has made him quite a good researcher, and a pretty decent lecturer to boot. I should know, I helped a bit with his training! (He was my first padawan, so to speak.)
2. He is flexible: diligent and driven when the need arises, perseverant like nearly no CS graduate student I have ever known, able to hold up under pressure and in adversity, and laid back when there are no pressing concerns. As an example of the latter: he is very poetic (hence his nickname, Haipeng the Poetical). You should hear some of his original - and extemporaneous! - aphorisms.
3. He is friendly and very even-tempered. I have always known him to be patient, gently-spoken even when he is angry, tactful even when faced with unpleasant situations, and humble. He is honest and forthright, and has a refreshingly unselfish attitude, which I'm happy to say he is spreading all around Hong Kong (and elsewhere in East Asia, I hope). I'd like to say I had a little to do with this, but really, it's all to his credit. I am proud to say that of all the things he has learned from me, the one he has taken most to heart is to be generous to others. I believe his character to be very good. A lot of people - myself included - could really learn from this man. I am very glad and honored to have him as my first Ph.D. graduate, and am not in the least surprised that he is himself now a faculty member at a research university, barely a year after graduating.


038 - dragnflye is cool because:
1. She is open-minded, rational, and adept at making people think about their political positions.
2. She is raising a son by herself, which alone makes her a heroine in my book, and very responsible too.
3. If you get to know her, you will find that she is really caring and compassionate. I've always known her to be considerate of her friends.


039 - borgseawolf is cool because:
1. He is Shōgun of TEUNC. 'Nuff said. (No, really, or he will cut you with that katana.)
2. He is, as hempknight predicted, the greatest TEUNC LJ-er of us all. He resisted for the longest time when I started calling for TEUNCs to get LiveJournals after invite codes went away last December, and then - bam! Activism, reviews, thoughtful and aesthetic posts. I can't do half as well as I would like in twice the time that I should spend, as Bilbo would say.
3. He is a guru of many things illustrated and animated. His web comics are hilarious and brilliant!


040 - angelislington is cool because:
1. She is an aficionado of all that is Good and Great: Neil Gaiman, Tim Burton... the list goes on.
2. She's a staah, dahling! Talented, daring, passionate, and consummate about everything she puts her mind to. Just really cool.
3. She is the bestest hobbit lass ever! Look at her pic and tell me she isn't adorable!


041 - erebrandir is cool because:
1. He is the best journaller, in the precise use of the term, that I've ever read. His LiveJournal is a true chronicle: detailed yet interesting, down-to-earth, real. Truly "The Book of Joe".
2. He's not just a sharp guy; he is logical and keenly insightful. I am often positively surprised by what I find in his writings.
3. He is kind, considerate, thoughtful, romantic, mature beyond his years, and hyper-intelligent. You single ladies don't know what you're missing! (Honestly, he should be insanely popular - not just on LJ but IRL - and I can't for the life of me see why he is anything less than a rock godnet celebrity.)


042 - twinbee is cool because:
1. He is a math/computer science double major, which as we all know is a special breed. He joins a club that includes Nick Flink, zengeneral, Julie Thornton, and yours truly. Also, I think megruder had a minor in mathematics. So, you see? Augments should be led by Augments! (Heh, just kidding.)
2. He is funny as hell! In many ways he reminds me of my close friends in my university days: Evan Bynum, Chris League, and Jeremy Elson.
3. He has excellent taste in good SF. His list of previously read books contains several authors (Dick, Vonnegut, Clarke) whose works are on my reading list, and vice versa (Asimov).


043 - auriam is cool because:
1. He's sharp as a whistle. Some of the most interesting topics on cognitive psychology that I've come across online have been from his blog.
2. He is a good guy. Very sweet-looking and just plain sweet, from what I can see.
3. He's fighting the good fight under very stressful conditions, and having the courage to stick it out.


044 - mailea is cool because:
1. She is a hobbit lass, too! Sean Astin has a devoted fan in this one.
2. She has quite a few cool musical fandoms, and writes interesting concert reviews.
3. She's interesting LiveJournal themes, worth dropping by to take a look at.


045 - rsmit212 is cool because:
1. He has good sense and a real dearth of non-sense. Though we do not agree on all political issues, you can always trust rsmit212 to tell it to you straight without putzing around. Honest and open, he really sets a good example for people younger and older.
2. From what I can tell, he is an IT professional of high quality. He reads things on his own, and not just your Dr. Dobbs' Journal or JavaOne stuff, but real technical publications, and he doesn't just pretend to understand them, which happens a lot, as zengeneral avers and as I can confirm.
3. He is determined, and doesn't give up on things easily.


046 - huginn is cool because:
1. His icon screams coolness. Nice shades, casual smile, bright sun. Yeah.
2. He has a cool job. I mean, who else can say he breaks things for a living? Well, OK, fine, but I mean: on purpose?
3. He has a LiveJournal account name that is very close to Hugin, yet he is surprisingly unafraid of being crushed.


047 - poman/rasakavya/vajrahridaya/praxes is cool because:
1. He has four LJs! I mean, come on, even I have only... uh, three. (Well, three LJs and two GJs, but only two are active, and who's counting? ;-))
2. He writes really well. His poetry is inspirational; his stories, affecting; and his appreciation of spirituality and its aesthetics, of a high caliber.
3. He is a parent and a researcher, and yet he still finds time to read and write interesting things outside of work.


048 - maegwen is cool because:
1. She is a staff member of TheOneRing.net, and TORners are intrinsically as hella cool as people who have eaten Red Dragons... heh, sorry, little NetHack humor there. Just look at jereeza, weetanya, and figgylicious! Good company, there.
2. She is a fellow consummate Lost fan. I've enjoyed wibbling over the latest episode with her, Figgy, and narvi, for many an evening this fall.
3. She has neat design concepts. Fonts, graphics, all sorts of things you can see on her LJ.
