Obituary: Dr. Leonard Bloomquist

I picked up a copy of the k_state Collegian on Tuesday and did not notice the top headline, "Sociology department head dies from cancer Monday".

Leonard E. Bloomquist, associate professor and head of the sociology department, died of cancer Monday morning.
Gerad Middendorf, assistant professor in sociology, said Bloomquist's battle with cancer has been ongoing since fall 2004.

"I would say he was extremely generous and student-centered. He put students and interns first. He stood out," Middendorf said.

Bloomquist's funeral arrangements are being handled by Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Bloomquist's wake is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Seven Dolors Catholic Church and a mass is at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Seven Dolors Catholic Church. A memorial fund is pending approval from Bloomquist's family.
