We got snow before Oulu, Finland!
We-- hey, wait a minute!
Man, was it windy today.
I walked through the snow to get to my meetings in Durland and Nichols, coming back from Throckmorton... uphill, backwards, on my knees....
"Back in my day..."
Oh, but I learned a new definition. A blizzard, says our state climatologist Mary Knapp, who happens to be a co-PI on our ecological genomics project, is a snowfall consisting of wind speeds of up to 40mph, with snow dense enough to limit visibility to less than one mile for at least 2-3 hours. The same conditions without precipitation (where gusts drive powdered snow from the ground into the air) are called a ground blizzard. The 40mph is one of several standards, according to Wikipedia's entry on blizzard.
I wrote this before, but LJ seems to have eaten it, and I don't think I saved over it, but anyway, here it is again!

Not as far in as I'd like to be, and only half of the current quota, but I hope to get caught up this week. I was at 5,000 at this time last year, so I'm not terribly worried.
