NationStates

(Yes, it's a lille early in the morning.)

I love this online game NationStates!
It's like Civilization and Age of Empires, only with more politics, less war, more international cooperation, and no computer cheating. Hrm, wlokay, it's knot really like those games. :-)

I had a NationState, but I got bored with it, and it's probably dead now. It had started repeating the same scenarios over and over.

Having the most fun with NationStates
Actually, it might not be dead - they never expire (and I don't think the game resets). It might have gotten weird, though.

Here's what I've learned about NationStates:

1. It's more meaningful (to me) and IMO more fun when you have a bunch of friends that you can endorse and be endorsed by in the UN.
2. It can be a riot when you have a unified theme (common regional currency, flags, etc.)... or not. We went whole-hog and made a map, divvying up Balrog Cuttings (which bears an odd resemblance to the northwest of Middle-earth)

3. You can get more out of it by PROPOSING UN resolutions, lobbying for them, voting on them, debating them in the forum, and also by writing issues. It's really a social experiment (not to mention a brilliant promotional strategy by novelist Max Barry).

Wibbletrask
Hi, Elly - welcome aboard!
My nation is called Wibbletrask.
Here's the current description (they change daily based upon your responses to issues):

The Federation of Wibbletrask is a small, devout nation, remarkable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, hard-working population of 14 million enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, liberal morass -- concentrates mainly on Social Welfare, although Religion & Spirituality and Healthcare are secondary priorities. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 33%. An almost nonexistent private sector is dominated by the Soda Sales industry.

Corporations donate huge sums of money to favored politicians, college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys, military funding has been stripped back, and meat-eating is frowned upon. Crime is moderate, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Wibbletrask's national animal is the capybara, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the crystal flokarino.

Wibbletrask is ranked 19th in the region and 54,076th in the world for Largest Gambling Industry.

Nation: The Federated States of Wibbletrask (FSW)
Capital: Wibbleopolis
Provinces (5): Traskonia, Kalaalit Banaat, The Westfarthing, Bob, Wibblas
Major cities/provincial capitals (5): Traskville, Neskimo City, Hobbiton, Banagrad, Minas Nom (Zirkadar)
Major bodies of water: The River Wibble, Lake Traskonia, the Eriador Aquifer
Other major geologic formations (2): the Hill (it's flat here), Mount Smurrow (one of the outlying Ered Luin)
